John Paul Jones was born in Pelahatchie, Mississippi on March 9, 1918. His mother was Katherine (Kate) Louise Barrow, and his father was Charles Bruce Jones. Kate Jimmie Lee Jones was John’s wife. His numerous siblings were named William Clinton Jones, Eunice Mae Jones, Nannie (Minnie) Elizabeth Jones, Carl Bruce Jones, Elbert Dural Jones, Charles Ray Jones, Stella Barrow Jones, Leon Clark Jones, Eva Katherine Jones, Thomas Franklin (Tommie Franky) Jones, and James (Jimmy) Eugene Jones. The Jones family worked and lived on a farm, which was Kate Jones’s occupation after her husband passed away.
John P. Jones was able to read, write, and speak English. He attended school in the Holly Bush Consolidated school district, and he was able to complete three years of college education. His civil occupation was stenographer and typist. Before his enlistment, John married Jimmie Lee Jones and had a son named John Michael Jones.
Charles Jones was born in Eagle Lake, Colorado County, Texas on December 15, 1878. He served in the US army during World War I. In 1930, Charles Jones passed away and was buried in Holly Bush Cemetery. After the death of Charles, his wife Katherine married T. W. McKay. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1968. Katherine would go on to outlive most of her family. Born on September 24, 1887, she lived a long life of 101 years and passed away on November 4, 1988. She is buried in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.
Born on August 28, 1905, Eunice Mae Jones married Arthur C. Thorne, who died in 1966. Eunice later died in Sacramento and was buried with her husband in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, the same resting place of her mother.
Minnie Jones was born on August 31, 1907. Later in life, she began going by Nannie. After marriage, she changed her surname to Brown before her enlistment into the US Army on August 5, 1943. She passed away on October 9, 1980, and she is buried in Holly Bush Cemetery.
Carl Bruce Jones was born on October 26, 1909. As a body repairman, he was initiated as a freemason in 1943 while living in the Panama Canal Zone. He died on October 6, 1985 and is buried with his spouse Zaida Loper Jones in Ragan Cemetery, located in Pelahatchie, MS.
Elbert Dural Jones, born in 1912, worked on the family farm until around 1940, when he moved to Pearl River, Louisiana and worked as a truck driver. By 1945, he moved to Putnam County in Florida. After his death in the October of 1965, he was buried Palatka Memorial Gardens in Palatka, Florida. Two years later, his wife, Mattie Lee Jones, would be laid to rest with him.
Charles Ray Jones was born on January 19, 1914. He worked as an automobile mechanic for the Mataldamg Lumber Company along with his brother, Elbert. Around 1940-1945, he registered for the WWII draft, but it is unknown if he went to war. Eventually, he would end up in Alaska, where he passed away on November 15, 1970. He is buried in Holly Bush Cemetery, where his father and sister reside as well.
Stella Jones McKay was born on February 6, 1916. She lived in Mississippi for all her life, and she married her husband James Colon McKay. On October 27, 1982, she passed away. Later, her husband was buried with her in Barefoot Springs Cemetery.
Leon Clark Jones was born next on February 20, 1920. Leon Jones was a World War II veteran, enlisting in the US Army on January 7, 1942 at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. Before his time in the Army, Leon was unmarried, had one year of college education, and was working as a baker. Leon survived the war, and later married Dorothy Jean Alford (1924-2003). Leon passed away on August 2, 2006, and he was laid to rest with his wife in Arlington National Cemetery.
Eva Katherine Jones was born on March 27, 1923. She married Granvill B. Whittle in Texas in 1980. On February 4, 2009, she passed away.
After his birth on August 6, 1926, Thomas Franklin Jones would serve in World War II as a member of the US Army. He enlisted on October 10, 1944. Thomas passed away on March 25, 1989 and was buried in Holly Bush Cemetery.
James “Jimmy” Jones came as the youngest sibling on December 8, 1928. He enlisted in the US Navy on May 16, 1946 and was released three years later the same day. James joined the US Army on September 20, 1949 and spent nearly six years as an active member until his release on August 17, 1955. He passed away on November 1, 2006 and now rests in Utah State Veterans Memorial Park.
